TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State basketball (5-2) welcomes Southern Methodist University (6-3) to Desert Financial Arena on Wednesday night to close out its three-game home stand. The Sun Devils will look for a win to sweep the homestand and extend their current win streak to four games.

SMU comes into the game alternating wins and losses in its last seven games. The Mustangs won their last time out, meaning if the trend continues, ASU fans will be going home happy Wednesday night.

SMU has faced three Power Five conference opponents this season. The Mustangs fell at home to Texas A&M and then beat West Virginia and lost to Wisconsin in the 2023 Fort Myers Tip-Off.

ASU faced SMU last season and won 75-57. Junior guard Frankie Collins scored 11 points with five assists and graduate student forward Alonzo Gaffney contributed nine points on 4-5 from the field.

Here are our Sun Devil Daily staff predictions for ASU’s game against SMU.

Arizona State basketball predictions against SMU

ASU: 76 SMU: 70

The Sun Devils are looking to sweep their three-game homestand and will win their 4th consecutive game as the team continues to gel and grow. Expect a big defensive game from Frankie Collins and another good offensive performance out of Jose Perez. – Anthony D’Amato (4-1)

ASU: 71 SMU: 59

ASU is continuing to look better every time it takes the court. I think they handle business against SMU and get a double-digit win. We continue to see drives to the hoop and trips to the free-throw line, as that’s what has kickstarted the Sun Devils offense. I think the defense plays strong and holds the Mustangs to a season-low in points. Head coach Bobby Hurley will have the team ready to handle business on their home court. – Douglas Santo (5-0)

ASU: 70 SMU: 58

ASU played a wonderful game last time out against San Francisco and will look to continue that against SMU. I believe the offense and defense will continue to be hot and roll to another win. – Cooper Burns (5-0)
