TEMPE, Ariz.- The Arizona State Sun Devils protected their home field last weekend with a 34-15 win in dominant fashion, led by redshirt sophomore quarterback Sam Leavitt and redshirt junior receiver Jordyn Tyson. With with win, ASU advanced to 2-1 on the young season.
After the devastating loss on the road the week prior against Mississippi State, the Sun Devils bounced back against the Bobcats with an offense looking stronger than ever.

Leavitt put up 188 passing yards, two touchdowns and 59 rushing yards against Texas State, and Tyson also had himself a game. The star receiver had six catches for 105 yards, and an unbelievable touchdown.
Tyson’s focused on improvement
With Tyson being the number one receiver for ASU, he is a huge part of the offense when it comes to big plays, scoring, and blocking. After an exceptional week against Texas State in the receiving department, Tyson is focused on improving his blocking this week against Baylor.
“I need to be better in the run game. I feel like I didn’t block as well as I usually do this week,” Tyson said. “Last week I could have sprinted for a couple of extra yards, but I feel like those are things I can improve this week.”Â

Leavitt and Tyson have a chemistry like no other. The two always seem to find each other on the field ready to make plays, and while fans love watching their connection, the duo loves working together just as much.
“It’s amazing, he has a great feel for the game. He knows what he wants his receivers to do in a game, he has a good feel for space,” Tyson said. “It’s just amazing working with Sam, he’s such a hard worker.”
Looking toward this weekend
ASU will travel to open Big 12 play on Saturday, Sept. 20, against Baylor, who also comes in with a 2-1 record. This game will be crucial in the Big 12 standings as it’s the first conference game for both teams. The Sun Devils will also enter the game as underdogs for the first time this season.
ESPN predictions have Baylor with a 53.7 percent chance to win. Only time will tell if ASU can use this as fuel to its fire as it takes on a competitor statistically better.
