TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State soccer has had a season like no other. When it came to uniting in big moments, the ASU soccer did so.

For example, on Sept. 18, ASU beat No. 10 BYU in a huge statement win for a rising team. Since then, ASU has found itself struggling when it comes to finishing the job. T

The Sun Devils have an overall record of 10-5-3 and sit ninth in the Big 12. Three of ASU’s losses have come to Texas Tech, TCU and Colorado, who were all ranked inside the top 25 at the time of the match. These losses against big name teams will make it interesting as far as the playoff picture.

ASU will take on its biggest rival in college sports, Arizona, next. The showdown will take place in Tuscan as ASU will determine its future for the rest of the season. If the Sun Devils win, they just need TCU to beat Houston, and they would make the Big 12 Championship Tournament. However, if they fall short of taking home the victory, or tie the game, the Sun Devils would need som extra help.

Looking forward to Thursday’s match against Arizona, ASU definitely has competition against the rising team. The Sun Devils are really going to have to watch out for sophomore forward Aurora Gains. She currently leads the Wildcats in goals for the team. She has four goals, and has racked up three assists heading into the regular season finale.

If ASU continues their season into the playoffs, the Big 12 Championship quarter finals will be on Nov. 3, and TCU will be the host. Not only would ASU have to travel from Tucson to TCU, but it would also more than likely have to face the Horned Frogs as the No. 8 seed. Changing the mindset from regular season soccer to playoff soccer will be crucial for this team.
