TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State sophomore quarterback Sam Leavitt is not expected to play for the Sun Devils against Iowa State on Saturday November 1, 2025. Leavitt is recovering from a lower-body injury he sustained in last week’s loss to Houston, and has been ruled out of Saturday’s contest, per multiple sources.

Leavitt left the Houston game twice, once in the first quarter, and once in the second half, and didn’t return for the final drive. This sparked concerns about his health heading into ASU’s Week 10 Big 12 road test in Ames, Iowa.

Coach Kenny Dillingham announced earlier this week that Leavitt’s status was “day-to-day,” and that the team would move him around in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday to determine if he could play on Saturday.

The sophomore transfer from Michigan State has been a key spark for ASU’s offense, bringing mobility and confidence to a team developing chemistry in Dillingham’s third season. Leavitt’s ability to extend plays and attack through the air gave the Sun Devils flexibility that has been difficult to replace.

What does that mean for ASU?

With Leavitt sidelined, ASU is expected to start with senior quarterback Jeff Sims to lead the offense against a tough Iowa State defense. The change could mean adjustments to play-calling as the Sun Devils search for consistency on offense throughout the game.

Leavitt’s injury adds another challenge to a season already marked with setbacks and transition. As ASU continues its second year in the Big 12, his recovery will be a major story for the remainder of the schedule. The Sun Devils quest to defend their 2025 Big 12 Championship just keeps getting more difficult.
