Former ASU wide receiver is making his way to the Super Bowl

The San Francisco 49ers made a big comeback win against the Detroit Lions winning 34-31 while being down at halftime 24-7. With the 49ers win, one former Sun Devil is making his way to Las Vegas for the biggest game in football.

Pro Devil makes his way to the Super Bowl

Former Arizona State wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk made his way to the NFL in the 2020 NFL draft. Aiyuk was drafted by the 49ers in the first round with the 25th overall pick. Once he was drafted, he instantly made an impact with the 49ers.

This season has statistically been Aiyuk’s best season in the NFL. Over the 2023 season, Aiyuk finished with 105 targets, 75 receptions with 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.

In the 2023 NFL playoffs against the Green Bay Packers, Aiyuk started off slow with three catches for 32 yards. However, Aiyuk would get back on track against Detroit.

In the NFC Championship, Aiyuk rallied three catches for 68 yards and a touchdown. He averaged 22.7 yards per catch on the game.

Aiyuk made an improbable catch in the second half as 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy threw a 51-yard pass to Aiyuk. The ball deflected off of a Lions defender’s helmet and into the hands of Aiyuk.

Purdy would then throw a six-yard pass left for Aiyuk at Detroit’s own six-yard line for a 49ers touchdown. It was the turning point that the 49ers needed for their comeback.

Aiyuk is representing the Sun Devils proudly as he now has career stats of 399 targets, 269 receptions, 3,931 yards, 25 touchdowns, and averaging 14.6 yards per game.
