TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State basketball officially lost Frankie Collins earlier today. Collins, a junior point guard, originally entered the transfer portal on March 26 but made it clear he was considering a return to Tempe. The Sacramento native began his career at the University of Michigan before his two seasons at Arizona State.

Now he will be ending his career with another Big 12 school, but not ASU.

Frankie Collins transfers to TCU

Collins chose TCU earlier today over five other finalists. Florida, SMU, SDSU, California, and Arizona State all made his cut list, but eventually, TCU came out on top.

Last season for the Sun Devils Collins was arguably their most valuable player. He averaged 13.8 points per game, 3.2 assists per game, and 4.4 rebounds per game. Collins was menacing on the defensive end as well, averaging 2.7 steals per game. He also broke ASU’s all-time single-season steals record previously held by Lafayette (Fat) Lever. Lever held the record for over 40 years with 76 steals in a single season. Collins cleared that this past season with 84 steals.

Collins earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors this past season as a junior, and was named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. The scrappy point guard finished No. 17 in the Pac-12 in points per game.

With Arizona State joining the Big 12 next season, the two schools will meet at least once and potentially twice next season. Collins offered a farewell to ASU fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) following his announcement.

“LOVE THE SUN DEVIL NATION!!” Collins wrote on X. “942 Crew and all. I am thankful for the 2 years here. We share a part of history together and it’ll never be taken away, well I hope not.”
