TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State football announced the hiring of a new football analyst.
David Gibbs who was a long-time defensive coordinator and associate head coach will assume the role of analyst at ASU.
Gibbs has an impressive coaching resume that stretches from various collegiate positions to multiple positions in the NFL.
The Sun Devils’ newest addition to the coaching staff has been the defensive coordinator at Houston, Texas Tech, and a co-defensive coordinator at UCF. All three of those teams are in the Big 12. ASU’s move to the Big 12 this season comes with many changes and challenges, but Gibbs can be vital in helping with that transition.
Here is a full list of Gibbs’ previous coaching experience.
While he was at UCF, he helped lead the Knights to an American Athletic Conference championship in 2022.
During his time in Orlando, the Knights’ defense led the conference in passing yards against and was fifth in scoring defense.
Gibbs will work as an analyst for both sides of the ball. However, it’s expected that he could play a larger role in the defense as time goes on.
The Sun Devil’s defense struggled at times last season, albeit not having much help from the offense. But the defense has improved heading into the 2024 season, and this continues the trend for vast improvement this year.
Arizona State football kicks off its season on August 31, at 7:30 p.m. against Wyoming.
