TEMPE, Ariz. — Last Saturday Arizona State football competed valiantly against USC, one of the top teams in the country. USC head coach Lincoln Riley praised Arizona State and spoke highly of ASU’s first-year head coach Kenny Dillingham.

After the game on Saturday, Riley was asked if the news that Dillingham would be calling plays for Arizona State changed his gameplan going into the contest.

“A little bit, it definitely did. Kenny’s an experienced play-caller,” Riley said. “… Kenny’s a tremendous offensive coach. We knew we were going to see a different atmosphere, a different team, a different challenge.”

A different challenge is exactly what the Trojans saw. The same Arizona State offense that was shut out by Fresno State the week before, put up 28 points on USC’s defense. That’s the most ASU’s offense has scored in this young season. Going into the matchup the Sun Devil offense averaged 13.0 points per game, last in the Pac-12.

Lincoln Riley’s stamp of approval isn’t something to take lightly. The 40-year-old boasts a stunning 70-13 record as a head coach in college football. He also dons three college football playoff appearances, but he’s still searching for his first playoff victory.

Riley didn’t just complement Dillingham and the Sun Devils after the game either. Going into the matchup, the successful coach praised the Arizona State football program.

“You can see the things that they’re doing,” Riley stated. “The world will look at it and think one thing, they’re not as far away as people think they are.”

High praise for Dillingham and the Sun Devils by one of the best in the sport.
