TEMPE, Ariz.- Arizona State men’s basketball wait for a new coach is over, hiring former Saint Mary’s coach Randy Bennett.

Departing after a 25-year run with the Gaels (2001-2026), Bennett leaves the program with a final record of 589-228. He led them to 12 NCAA tournament appearances, seven WCC coach of the year honors, and owns the fourth-highest winning percentage in college basketball at .705 over the past 22 years.

ASU is moving on from former head coach Bobby Hurley. After being with the program for the past 11 years (2015-2026). The Sun Devils are ready to give the new program a name after the inconsistent run Hurley presented to the team.

In the 2026 season, ASU finished its season with a (17-16) record overall and missed the NCAA tournament for the third year in a row.

“We don’t give our fans any reason to show up; it’s a sterile environment, we don’t win here,” said Hurley. “We don’t give our fans any reason to show up, that’s the bottom line.”

Bennett has been signed to a five-year contract with the Sun Devils. He will be the head coach taking the court with the Sun Devils for the start of the 2027 season.
