TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona State Sun Devils hosted Long Island University at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center Sunday morning.  ASU put on a wet-and-wild performance to take home the victory, leaving with a record of 17-1 after a 23-5 win.

ASU’s water polo team continues thriving in high-scoring victories game by game. The Maroon and Gold are now on an 11-game winning streak after facing LIU, coming out victorious.

ASU’s outstanding defensive performance

Each player on this team brings the skills needed to work in perfect harmony when put together. One player specifically provides a skill this team can’t live without.

Senior goalie Sanne Keijzer has many talented blocks per game; in this game, specifically, she shows how determined she is not to let that ball hit the back of the net.

Whether her hands are in the air or providing words of encouragement for her teammates, she is always posing as a threat.

Keijzer is a stellar goalie on this team, with 67 saves in this season alone, making her the No. 1 goalie in saves on this Sun Devil team. Keijzer conceded only 5 goals and put on an outstanding performance.

In this game, Keijzer’s ability to be vocal really stands out to her teammates, giving them the confidence they need to get the ball in that net. ASU led 8-0 at the end of the first period.

The Sun Devils are no stranger to victories

Throughout the second period, LIU could only score once, appearing scared to shoot at the net.  Keijzer is never scared to be loud or put intense pressure on the opposing team. This played a key role in LIU’s weak performance in getting the ball up.

The Sun Devils played relaxed yet determined. Even though ASU continued to blow LIU out of the water, they scored as many goals as they could, no matter how far ahead they were.

Meanwhile, on offense, senior attacker Millie Quin and senior center Sophie Shorter-Robinson were the top scorers of this game, continuing to put the ball up for ASU to secure the victory.

This team strives in every area, whether that’s getting the ball into the net or saving goals. The connection these athletes share creates a fun, well-rounded team full of success.

At the start of the fourth period, ASU led 19-2, really showing that no matter how much they lead, they are always striving for more goals.

The Sun Devils are back in the water at 2 p.m. Feb. 15, taking on Azusa Pacific University.
