What does history say about being preseason number one?

Of the last 10 preseason conference favorites nine of the last ten have gone on to win the PAC-12 in that respective season. The last team to not be favored to win the conference and go on to do so was Stanford in 2016.

What does this mean for Arizona State football?

With new head coach Kenny Dillingham, Arizona State is toward the bottom third of the Pac-12 media preseason rankings. With the likes of Caleb Williams, Michael Penix, and Cameron Rising to return to their teams, it will present a major challenge for ASU to climb the ranking quickly. Despite that, the Sun Devils will have a chance under Dillingham given the Devils will have eight games at Sun Devil Stadium. If the fans show up per request of Dillingham the postseason rankings may look a little different for the Devils.
