Beginning on July 1, 2024, we all know that college football is going to look more different than ever. Arizona State and others will be taking their talents to the Big 12, Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC, and USC and UCLA to the Big 10. Just to name some of the major realignments.
With the new faces in new places, many high school recruits may not want to go to UCLA or USC due to the travel, regardless of sport.
Stanford and Cal going to the ACC will also have a deterrent on their ability to get recruits, especially for their big programs like soccer, golf, etc.
Many have said it is going to be taxing on the student-athletes traveling from one coast to another so frequently while also balancing school and social life as well.
Arizona football coach Jedd Fisch believes he will be able to use that to an advantage. We think Kenny Dillingham will have something to say about that.
Recruiting aspect for Arizona State and Arizona
One of the new advantages for the schools on the west coach joining the Big 12 or Mountain West is they will not have to travel as far.
The West Coast Big 12 teams may have to travel to West Virginia or Florida once or twice, but most of their travel will be within a two-hour plane ride of their respective universities. With that, some of the universities like ASU, UA, BYU, etc. will be able to get recruits from a place like southern California a little easier.
All they have to tell the recruits is that they won’t have to travel cross country every single week for however long they attend that particular institution.
Jedd Fisch weighs in on recruiting southern California
Recently Arizona State rival Arizona had their head football coach voice his optimism on recruiting in California.
On a recent episode of “Until Saturday: A Show about College Football,” Jedd Fisch had some things to say about recruiting southern California without USC and UCLA posing a huge threat anymore.
“I mean who’s our competition in recruiting?” Fisch said. “The two programs on the west coast in California that now have to convince kids that it’s worth their while to go play at Iowa?”
It seems that Jedd Fisch has some more explaining to do on why he believes he will be able to go recruit elite talent in southern California without anyone else stepping on his shoes.
Arizona State football head coach Kenny Dillingham has noted time and time again that he is going to be able to get some very good talent in just a few years. Not to mention that every powerhouse program in America recruits the vast elite talent that southern California has to offer.
Looks like Jedd Fisch has some reevaluating to do.
