TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State basketball is heating up on the recruiting trail. Head coach Bobby Hurley is making ground with a couple of four-star prospects.
Arizona State basketball gaining momentum on the recruiting trail
Four-star guard Casmir Chavis (2024) narrowed his list of potential schools down to four Friday evening. Arizona State found itself among the top four, in company with West Virginia, Georgia, and Washington.
From Minneapolis, MN, the 6’3” combo guard out of Park Central ranks 108th nationally, according to 247Sports.
In the 2022-2023 season, Chavis tallied 16.0 points per contest on 62% from the field through 25 games.
Chavis is a nightmare in the open floor thanks to his uber athleticism and brisk speed. His ability to use his hands defensively and strip the opposition of the ball maximizes those fast-break opportunities. In a half-court set, Chavis excels at reading the defense and adjusting to the pace of the game. Combined with that, Chavis is a master at changing his direction and accelerating in the half-court, allowing him to split the defense and attack the rim.
Four-star prospect schedules an official visit with Arizona State
The recruiting doesn’t stop there for Bobby Hurley, as four-star forward Amier Ali (2024) will be taking his official visit to Tempe on October 20th. Ali resides in Tucson, Arizona, where he currently plays for Canyon International Academy. Originally from Texas, Ali previously made pit stops at Montverde Academy, IMG Academy, and Spring Creek Academy. The 6’8, 175-pound forward is ranked 62nd nationally and third in Arizona, according to 247Sports.
Ali recently narrowed his list down to five schools. The schools that join Arizona State on that list include Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, and Kentucky. Ali serves best as a wing with the scalability to play the two through the four, while simultaneously having the ability to guard a vast amount of positions and varying skill sets. Ali is strong at putting the ball on the floor and finishing around the rim while excelling as an off-ball navigator and backdoor cutter.
With the 2023-24 campaign looming for this new-look Sun Devil roster, Hurley and crew stay active in their attempt to bolster recruitment for the future.
