TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona State basketball hits the road for a short trip down to Tucson to face its rival Arizona on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the McKale Center. The last regular season matchup ended on a half-court buzzer beater by Desmond Cambridge Jr. that lifted ASU to victory. The game will be televised on FS1 or can be listened to on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM or Sirius XM 385 radio.
Both teams enter Saturday heating up lately. The Sun Devils have won two straight games and have looked about as good as they have all season. The Wildcats have won five straight games, positioning themselves atop the Pac-12 standings and No. 5 in both the Kenpom and AP top 25 rankings.
Arizona has owned the all-time series with ASU winning 35 of the 49 matchups. The Wildcats have also won six of the last seven games between the rivals. But you never know with Sun Devil basketball, there can always be some fireworks in store for Saturday night. That said, Arizona is 12-0 at home this season.
Here are our Sun Devil Daily staff predictions.
Arizona State basketball predictions against Arizona
ASU: 85 Arizona: 83
Frankie Collins and Alonzo Gaffney will have legacy games and ASU will start a winning streak against Arizona. Anything can happen in rivalries, as we learned last year. – Anthony D’Amato (9-12)
ASU: 70 Arizona: 92
U of A is ranked No. 5 in the nation, and the Sun Devils having to play on the road is an obvious disadvantage. Though it is not entirely impossible, it will be difficult for ASU to leave Tucson with a win. – Truitt Robinson (8-7)
ASU: 62 Arizona: 88
This is going to be the most difficult game of the season for ASU. As we have seen across CBB all season it has virtually become impossible to win on the road. McKale is always slammed and a very loud arena. If ASU wants to pull off the upset yet again in T Town, they will have to get off to a hot start. – Cooper Burns (10-9)
ASU: 66 Arizona: 83
ASU finally has some momentum back after back-to-back wins, and it looked really good the last two games. But Arizona is just too good for the Sun Devils. I think ASU comes out of the gate fired up but in the second half, the Wildcats pull away. This could be a season-altering win for ASU, but I don’t think they’ll be able to play a full game of flawless basketball. – Douglas Santo (11-10)
