TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State basketball (11-10, 5-5) welcomes California (8-13, 4-6) to Tempe Saturday at 1 p.m. for the final game of a short two-game homestand. The Sun Devils have now lost three straight including just their second home loss of the season. The Golden Bears lost their last game against Arizona but had won their previous two games.
ASU won the first meeting with California earlier this season after trailing by 10 points at halftime. The Sun Devils own the all-time series going 23-20 and have won 10 of the last 11 matchups.
ASU will look for a win to stay above .500 on the season and avoid being swept at home for the first time this season.
Here are our Sun Devil Daily staff predictions for Arizona State basketball against California.
Arizona State basketball predictions against California
ASU: 70 California: 62
Even though ASU has lost some momentum, a win at home can help them bounce back. Cal’s defense has been struggling as a whole during the season, the Sun Devils’ home crowd will be sure to let the Golden Bears hear it. – Truitt Robinson (6-5)
ASU: 72 Cal: 66
ASU is favored in this game but they are on the struggle bus. In the last game against Cal, the Sun Devils had to scratch and claw to come out of Berkeley with a W but did so. If ASU wants to win today it may not be their offense or defense that they need to control. The number one thing today will be controlling their emotions. If they do that they can win but if not it could be a long afternoon. – Cooper Burns (10-6)
ASU: 73 Cal: 72
The Sun Devils have not been playing their best basketball as of late and after a rough second half against Stanford, the poor momentum is going to continue against the Golden Bears. ASU is close to putting it all together but needs to do so quickly as the season is beginning to spiral out of control. – Anthony D’Amato (7-10)
ASU: 75 Cal: 64
On a three-game losing streak, the Sun Devils will look to rebound against a struggling Cal team that has won one road game in PAC-12 play. If ASU is going to win they have to rely on Frankie Collins’s leadership and start salvaging their season which has fallen awry since the Oregon loss on January 25th. – Landin Jeffrey
ASU: 73 Stanford: 65
ASU needs a win badly and I think it gets one here. It seems redundant at this point, but I think the Sun Devils have to turn this losing streak around at some point, and Cal is the right opponent for that. I think ASU will play solid defense and the leaders will step up and make big shots. The Sun Devils find a way to protect their home court. – Douglas Santo (9-8)
