Arizona State basketball heads to Southern California to face USC on Thursday night. The game will be the second last game of the regular season. ASU against USC will tip off at 9 p.m. and will be televised on FS1 or can be listened to on ESPN 620 AM (KTAR) or Sirius XM 391 radio.
Neither team has had the season they had hoped for. ASU has lost three of its last four games and eight of its last 11. USC started its conference schedule just 2-8 but has won four of its last eight games. The Trojans’ last five games have all been within seven points.
This will be the second matchup between the two teams this season. ASU won the first matchup behind junior guard Frankie Collins’ 20-point, six-steal performance. The Sun Devils had four players in double figures in the game and a big 13-rebound game from junior forward Bryant Selebangue off the bench.
However, USC was without its two top scorers in the first matchup. Neither fifth-year guard Boogie Ellis (16.6 ppg) nor freshman guard Isaiah Collier (17) played due to injury.
USC leads the all-time series and has dominated in recent history until the last couple of seasons. ASU has won the last two matchups but had lost the previous seven.
Thursday night should provide a good matchup of talented rosters pushing for a strong finish heading into the Pac=12 tournament.
Here are our Sun Devil Daily staff predictions for Arizona State basketball against USC.
Arizona State basketball predictions against USC
ASU: 78 USC: 76
Arizona State has continued to fight all season despite not getting the results it wants. I expect the same effort level in the game against the Trojans as the Sun Devils look for the sweep. Expect a closer game between these two teams as Boogie Ellis and Isaiah Collier are expected to play in this game. – Anthony D’Amato (10-15)
ASU: 66 USC: 78
The Sun Devils have struggled mightily on the road just like every other team in the nation seemingly. While ASU did take the win at home against USC they got off to a slow start. If ASU wants to win this game, they will need to get off to a much quicker start. – Cooper Burns (13-10)
ASU: 75 USC: 71
Despite being the visitors, ASU comes out of California with a W. USC has had a bit of a bumpy road being on and off its past few games, and its defense isn’t exactly its strong suit. ASU has beat them before, and it can do it again. – Truitt Robinson (10-9)
ASU: 68 USC: 75
The Sun Devils will look to finish the season strong for placement in the Pac-12 tournament, but I think this USC team is more talented than its record indicates. ASU won the first matchup and did so comfortably, but Boogie Ellis and Isaiah Collier make a big difference. I think USC holds off the Sun Devils on its home court. – Douglas Santo (13-12)
