Arizona State basketball (10-5) heads to Seattle to face Washington (9-6) Thursday night. ASU comes into the game red-hot, winning four straight games to open conference play. Washington on the other hand, has started Pac-12 play 1-3, losing the first three games before defeating Oregon State.
The Sun Devils have started 4-0 in conference play for the first time since 2008, and just the fourth time in program history. ASU could start 5-0 in Pac-12 play for the first time in more than 40 years with a win tonight. It would be only the second 5-0 start to conference play in school history. The Sun Devils have never started 6-0.
Washington’s record may be deceiving as each of its first four conference games were within five points. The Huskies also have an impressive non-conference win over Gonzaga. Washington has plenty of size on its interior, which will be important for ASU to neutralize tonight.
Washington currently leads the all-time series with ASU, 27-17, but the two teams split the season series last year. The Sun Devils first faced the Huskies in 2000, and the first 16 years of the series were dominated by the Huskies. But over the last seven years, ASU has gone 7-4. The last five matchups have all been won by the home team.
Without further adue, here are our Sun Devil Daily staff predictions.
Arizona State basketball predictions against Washington
ASU: 79 Washington: 73
ASU now is coming off two big wins against Colorado and Utah. Momentum will be on the Sun Devils’ side. Washington is coming off a few losses against Utah, Colorado, and Oregon. The Huskies defense has allowed nearly 76 points on average this season. If ASU’s offense can get things going, they can come out of Seattle with a win. – Truitt Robinson (3-3)
ASU: 75 Washington: 74
Washington will be a tough opponent for Arizona State as the Huskies only have a negative four-point differential despite being 1-3 in Pac-12 play. The Sun Devils need to start strong as a late-game comeback will be a tall task. A good game from Kamari Lands will go a long way towards a Sun Devil victory. – Anthony D’Amato (6-6)
ASU: 82 Washington: 75
ASU is rolling with the opportunity to go 5-0 in Pac-12 play for the first time since the 1979-80 season. The Sun Devils can’t afford a slow start against a potent Huskies offense. Adam Miller and Frankie Collins lead the way for a victory, as the Sun Devils get back into the NCAA Tournament conversation. – Landin Jeffrey
ASU: 77 Washington: 82
Despite rolling through the first four games on the conference slate, this is the best Pac-12 team ASU has played yet arguably. Washington is one of the top-scoring teams in the country and the ASU defense will need to play a near-perfect game to slow them down. – Cooper Burns (8-4)
ASU: 77 Washington: 74
ASU is on fire right now I think that continues tonight. The Sun Devils can’t overlook this Washington team, that’ll be looking to build on its first conference win. Washington has a lot of size in its interior, so I expect a lot of minutes from Shaun Phillips and Bryant Selebangue to protect the paint and help with rebounding. The Sun Devils will need another strong defensive game from both Frankie Collins and Jamiya Neal, who each have at least three steals in the last two games. I think ASU survives a close one and leaves Washington 5-0 in Pac-12 play. – Douglas Santo (8-4)
