TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State basketball returns home to face Washington in the first of a three-game homestand at Desert Financial Arena. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2 or can be listened to on ESPN 620 AM and Sirius XM 373 radio.
Washington is coming off a close home loss to California. Meanwhile, ASU is coming off a road-thumping in Tucson. The Sun Devils had won two straight games before the 45-point loss to Arizona. Both teams sit in the bottom half of the Pac-12 standings with five games remaining.
This will be the second meeting of the season for ASU and Washington. The Huskies won the first game on their home court, 82-67. Washington’s graduate student guard Sahvir Wheeler led the charge with 24 points and eight assists. Wheeler was perfect from beyond the arc making a career-high five 3-pointers. The biggest discrepancy in the first meeting was the 3-point percentage. Washington shot better than 50%, while ASU shot just 23.5%.
The Sun Devils will get their chance to protect home court Thursday night. The last six games between the two teams have been won by the home team, and ASU has won five of the last six meetings in Tempe.
Without further ado, here are our Sun Devil Daily staff predictions for Arizona State against Washington.
Arizona State basketball predictions against Washington
ASU: 77 Washington: 72
Both ASU and UW on paper are not too different from each other. UW has a tough offense, averaging nearly 81 points per game, but allowing around 76 points per game. Both ASU and UW have had an up and down past few games, but with DFA on ASU’s side, ASU can get the W. – Truitt Robinson (9-7)
ASU: 70 Washington: 78
ASU struggled mightily in their first meeting against Washington on the road in Seattle. The Sun Devils are coming off one of their worst losses in program history and are riding a major low. Washington is a sneaky good, fast-paced team that could give ASU issues. – Cooper Burns (11-9)
ASU: 76 Washington: 75
ASU got humiliated in their last game and will look to bounce back tonight. Washington had the Sun Devils’ number in the previous matchup in Seattle and ASU will look to avoid a sweep tonight. A good last four minutes of the first half and a good first four minutes of the second half could go a long way toward a Sun Devils victory. – Anthony D’Amato (9-13)
ASU: 77 Washington: 73
ASU had found a little momentum before its trip to Tucson. I think the Sun Devils are able to respond tonight. Washington got the best of them in the first matchup, but a lot of that was because of Sahvir Wheeler’s career night. It’s hard to beat the same team twice in the same season, especially when you have to go into their house the second go-around. I think that’s the difference tonight. ASU gets the job done on its home court. – Douglas Santo (12-10)
