TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State basketball welcomes Washington State to Tempe on Saturday at 6 p.m. for the second game of its three-game homestand. The game will be the first of back-to-back games against the two top teams in the Pac-12. The game will be televised on ESPN2 or can be listened to on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM or Sirius XM 392 radio.
ASU is coming off a loss to Washington where it overcame a 25-point deficit but fell in overtime 84-82. Meanwhile, Washington State has been on fire coming into the matchup. The Cougars have won eight straight and 11 of their last 12 games. Most recently, they defeated No. 4 Arizona in the McKale Center surpassing them for the top spot in the Pac-12.
ASU’s and WSU’s seasons seem to be going in opposite directions as the Cougars have propelled themselves into the top 25 and are a near-lock for the NCAA Tournament, while the Sun Devils have sputtered away any hopes at March.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season. The all-time series is tied at 17, and they split the season series last year. However, ASU has won three of the last four matchups in Tempe.
Here are our Sun Devil Daily staff predictions for Arizona State basketball against Washington State
Arizona State basketball predictions against Washington State
ASU: 66 Washington State: 82
ASU is on the cold streak of a lifetime right now and seemingly cannot find any offense. While they did come back against Washington, despite the loss, the lack of good starts is catching up to them. WSU just beat UA in Tucson which makes the task seemingly that much more difficult. – Cooper Burns (12-9)
ASU: 74 Washington State: 82
I believe this game will be close until free throws ice it for WSU. After a massive road victory against Arizona, the Cougars will look to capitalize on a Sun Devils team that lost a game they should have won against Washington on Thursday. ASU needs to maintain consistent effort if they want to upset the Cougars. – Anthony D’Amato (9-14)
ASU: 64 Washington State: 85
WSU will be a tough one for the Sun Devils, even at home. WSU is 12-4 against Pac-12 opponents, and even in Tempe, they won’t be phased by the noise. The Cougars’ offense is averaging 75 points per game and the defense is only allowing an average of 66 points per game, which will make it tough for ASU to get the win. – Truitt Robinson (9-8)
ASU: 68 Washington State: 87
This could easily be a trap game for Washington State coming off a huge win in Tucson. But I don’t think the Cougars let that happen. They just went into the McKale Center and knocked off Arizona, ASU was blown out by 45 points on their trip down south. I think Washington State is just too much for the Sun Devils and they keep rolling. – Douglas Santo (12-11)
