TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State basketball is having an active off-season in the portal, and now they’ve scheduled their first visit. Former UT-Martin guard Jordan Sears announced that he will visit ASU after the dead period ends post-tournament.
Sears has already completed a visit with LSU and will take a visit to South Carolina as well. The guard announced on March 28 that his final six schools were Alabama, South Carolina, LSU, West Virginia, Texas Tech, and ASU.
Arizona State basketball schedules visit with transfer prospect
Sears is originally from Daytona Beach, Florida where he graduated in the class of 2020 and was not ranked according to 247 Sports. Over the last four years, he has bumped his zero-star ranking up to a four-star transfer rating.
According to 247 Sports, Sears is the No. 50 overall transfer prospect in this cycle, and the No. 11 best shooting guard available.
For the first two seasons of his college career, Sears played at Garnder-Webb University. In his stint with Gardner-Webb, he averaged 8.7 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game, and 2.2 assists per game.
After his time at Gardner-Webb, Sears elected to enter the transfer portal and took his talents to UT-Martin. Sears broke out at his new school. He had a successful junior campaign, averaging 15.3 points per game. He continued to improve, having his best season yet as a senior.
In his senior year with UT-Martin last season, Sears was dominant. The guard averaged 21.6 points per game to go along with 4.5 assists per game and 4.6 rebounds per game. He was also extremely efficient for a volume shooting guard, shooting 43.2% from the field and 43.2% from three. Sears also gets it done at the line, shooting 83.9% on free throws.
Sears’ impact on ASU
It’s no secret that ASU lacked shooting last season, and Sears would immediately be the best three-point shooter on the roster. He is a high-priority target for head coach Bobby Hurley and one that would have an instant impact. Sears only has one more season of eligibility as a grad transfer, but he would be a key player for the Sun Devils next season.
With a good recruiting class coming in, it will be imperative for Hurley to capitalize on players like Sears if they want to be competitive in an ultra-competitive league like the Big 12.
