TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State basketball currently has a top-10 recruiting class in 2024, and the best in the Big 12 (247 Sports). The class contains two five-star prospects in Jayden Quaintance (No. 9 nationally) and Joson Sanon (No. 24 nationally). The Sun Devils also are adding Amier Ali, a four-star prospect.
With head coach Bobby Hurley’s creativity helping bring more NIL money to the table, the Sun Devils are succeeding on the recruiting trail. With the 2024 class likely finalized, we now look ahead to the 2025 recruiting class. Understandably, many fans are curious if Hurley and Co. can keep the momentum going.
247Sports Director of Basketball Eric Bossi recently tabbed several stock boosters for the 2025 class, and Arizona State basketball has been linked to three of them.
Arizona State basketball recruiting three stock risers
Kaden Magwood – Combo Guard
Kaden Magwood is a six-foot-three-inch combo guard who attends high-school hoops powerhouse Oak Hill in Virginia. The 247 Sports Composite rankings tab Magwood as the No. 80 overall prospect in his class, however, that could rise soon.
Magwood is a proven scorer but can be a primary ball handler when needed. The guard is an explosive athlete with a good burst that allows him to apply ball pressure defensively. We’ve seen that Hurley likes guards who can harass opposing ball handlers. Just look at Franke Collins who finished last season holding ASU’s single-season steals record.
The stock riser has racked up 21 offers including Arizona State, Alabama, Illinois, and Louisville.
Isaiah Denis – Combo Guard
Isaiah Denis is a six-foot-five combo guard from Davidson, North Carolina. 247 Sports Composite rankings rank Denis as a four-star prospect and the No. 112 overall player in the class and the No. 17 combo guard in the class.
Denis is athletic and provides nice size to the perimeter. He is also a capable scorer both at the rim and on the perimeter. Denis has 19 scholarship offers including Arizona State, Kansas, Florida, and Michigan.
Courtland Muldrew – Shooting Guard
Courtland Muldrew is a three-star shooting guard from Arkansas. Muldrew stands six-foot-three and clocks in a 170 lbs. 247 Sports Composite ranks Muldrew as the No. 209 overall prospect in the class, but he could see a nice boost when the rankings update.
Muldrew is a talented scorer and was able to display that last weekend on the Nike circuit when several of his AAU team’s top players were out. The shooting guard attacked the basket without fear and used his athleticism and body control to navigate strongly around the rim.
Arizona State is one of nine high major programs to offer the under-the-radar prospect. Being one of the early schools in this recruitment could pay off for Arizona State, especially if Muldrew begins to climb the rankings.
The importance of identifying talent
With NIL at the forefront in the majority of recruitments at the high major level, identifying overlooked talent and underrated recruits is essential. Schools need to find value and get the “best bang for their buck” and keying in on hidden gems is imperative.
Will Hurley and Arizona State basketball be able to capitalize on identifying undervalued talent?
