TEMPE, Ariz. — All eyes are on Kenny Dillingham and Arizona State football this upcoming season. In a loaded Pac-12 conference, ASU’s nonconference schedule is getting swept under the rug a bit by fans. The Big 12 preseason media poll showed that shouldn’t be the case.

Arizona State football opponent, Oklahoma State gets first-place vote

The Sun Devils will get a big test in Tempe early this season. In just Week Two, the Cowboys from Stillwater will travel out to the desert for a matchup with ASU.

This is the second half of a home-and-home series that began last season. A Herm Edwards-led Arizona State team went on the road and fell to a ranked Oklahoma State. The final score was 34-17 and the Cowboys led 17-3 at halftime.

Oklahoma State was led by quarterback Spencer Sanders. Sanders threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns.

One major difference in this season’s game is that Sanders no longer plays for the Cowboys. His departure has left a lot of question marks for the Big 12 team, but one Big 12 media member isn’t concerned.

Oklahoma State was picked to finish 7th overall in the conference in the Big 12 Media Preseason Poll. However, they did receive one first-place vote. Other teams in the conference to receive first-place votes were Texas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and TCU. Baylor was the only team picked to finish higher than Oklahoma State, that did not receive a first-place vote.

It’s clear there are question marks surrounding both Arizona State and Oklahoma State going into their 2023 matchup. The Week Two faceoff should be a fun game for fans to see their first look at their squads in a game against Power 5 talent.
