Arizona State football hired Deontrae Cooper last week. Cooper will be Arizona State’s assistant director of player personnel. He spent the last two seasons at Boise State serving as their coordinator of recruiting relations and player personnel.

In Cooper’s time with Boise State, the Broncos finished No. 1 in the Mountain West recruiting ranks according to 247 Sports.

“Deontrae has been a huge part of Boise State’s recruiting success the past two years —both in high school and junior college recruiting as well as in the portal,” 247Sports national recruiting editor Brandon Huffman said. “His ties to Southern California played a major role in those relationships as well as his work ethic and ability to connect with recruits.”

Arizona State football has targetted Southern California, as the area is a hotbed for talented recruits. Moving forward the area is more open as well with UCLA and USC’s move to the Big Ten Conference.

Cooper is a native of Southern California, as he’s a Riverside, Calif. native.

Prior to his time with Boise State, he served as a quality control coach with Colorado from 2020-2022.

The Sun Devils currently sit with the No. 24 overall recruiting class in 2025 and the No. 4 class in the Big 12. Two out of the four pledges are from California.
