TEMPE, Ariz. — The good times continue to roll for Arizona State football, Kenny Dillingham, and his staff as he picks up yet another transfer after this weekend’s visits. For those who may be unaware, Dillingham hosted 15 more recruits and transfers in addition to numerous last weekend as well.
Arizona State added a key part to their future secondary this afternoon, as they got a transfer from the SEC with two years of eligibility remaining.
Arizona State football adds SEC transfer
Laterrance Welch, out of Lafayette, LA, had originally committed to play for in-state LSU. Out of high school, the defensive back was a four-star commit and the 22nd-best corner in the class of 2022.
Additionally, Welch was the 12th-best player in the state of Louisiana in his class, a great feat considering the talent that Louisiana churns out every season.
Welch measures at 6-foot-1 and 193 pounds.
As a freshman, Welch played in just three games and recorded four tackles and a pass deflection. As a sophomore last season Welch played in six games total, making more of an impact than the previous season. He recorded 10 tackles and one pass deflection.
The stats may have been similar to one another but the potential is there.
With the need for cornerbacks at ASU, Welch will play significantly more snaps and have a huge impact on Arizona State football right away. The Sun Devils are losing both Ro Torrence and Demetrius Ford, who have exhausted their eligibility.
This is a huge pickup for Dillingham and cornerbacks coach Bryan Carrington.
