TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State football adds two transfers today to bolster an already talented roster for next season. Due to the number of returning players, the Sun Devils have been more selective with their portal needs than in the last two offseasons under Kenny Dillingham.

The pair of players ASU acquired today are both former highly-touted recruits that have the potential to play a significant role next season.

Arizona State football adds a couple of transfers

Jaren Hamilton

Today, the first addition is wide receiver Jaren Hamilton from Alabama. Hamilton has yet to play a snap of football in college football but has a lot of eligibility and potential. Hamilton hails from Gainesville, Fla., and has three years of eligibility remaining.

The receiver is a former four-star recruit and was the No. 238 overall recruit in the 2023 recruiting class (247 Sports). Hamilton had a barrage of offers in high school before committing to Alabama. Many schools including Florida, Michigan, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and USC all offered Hamilton a scholarship.

Despite a lack of production in his collegiate career, Hamilton is a nice pickup that could develop under wide receivers coach Hines Ward. He was talented enough to earn a roster spot to play for Nick Saban at Alabama prior to Saban’s retirement, so he undoubtedly has the capability to make a splash in Tempe.

Nyland Green

Nyland Green is another former highly-touted recruit. Green, a cornerback, was a five-star recruit (247 Sports) in the 2021 class. His spectacular play at the high school level led to him earning over 30 scholarship offers, including a slew of SEC schools. The Georgia product stayed in his home state, attending Georgia for his first three seasons of college, playing under Kirby Smart.

In his three seasons with the Bulldogs, he accumulated 13 total tackles and two pass deflections. Last season he played for Purdue, where he had a larger role. In 2024 Green logged 23 total tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and five pass deflections for the Boilermakers.

Now with one season of eligibility remaining, he will finish his career in Tempe. Green looks to bring experience to the secondary and has the ability to play right away. He fills a spot left by backup cornerback LT Welch who entered the portal after being dismissed from the program.

The additions of Green and Hamilton bring ASU’s offseason transfer portal haul to 11 players as of Jan. 13, 2025.
