TUALATIN, Ore. — Arizona State football commit Jayden Fortier is off to a nice start to his senior season. The top prospect in the entire state of Oregon dominated on Friday night. The tight end scored three touchdowns and helped lead Tualatin High School to a 42-14 victory.

Arizona State football commit Jayden Fortier shines

A day after his future school squeaked out a victory, Jayden Fortier took the field for his own team. It was the season opener for Tualatin and Fortier’s senior season. He didn’t waste any time. Fortier caught three touchdowns, thus beginning his breakout season.

Predicting a breakout season for a guy who’s ranked No. 1 in the state may sound silly, but Fortier is still out to demand national respect. 247 Sports has Fortier ranked as the 25th-best tight end in the nation and as a three-star prospect. I find it hard to believe there are 24 tight ends in the 2024 recruiting class better, but I’m not an expert.

What I do know is that Fortier is Jason Mohns’ first recruit since joining the ranks of college football this offseason. Mohns has spent the last 11 seasons as the head coach of the Saguaro Sabercats in Scottsdale, Ariz. In that time he established himself as one of the best high school football coaches in the entire country.

“Jason Mohns is one of the elite high school coaches to have ever been on the sidelines in the state of Arizona,” Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham said. “College coaches, including myself, have long tuned in to what Jason has been doing here. That kind of success does not go unnoticed at a national level. Jason is a Sun Devil for Life and a Valley staple, and it’s about time we are able to have him join this program.”

It’s safe to say Mohns should be familiar with high school football talent, and I think he found a special player in Jayden Fortier.
