TEMPE, Ariz. — The infamous blackout game is upon us, and this year the Devils will be donning black uniforms for their game against Oklahoma State. The current high for the temperature on Saturday is a cool 113 degrees, perfect for a blackout. Arizona State football released their official uniform reveal last night, and the video is impressive. Arizona State shows off black uniforms for the blackout
Last season Arizona State wore black against a ranked Utah team in interim head coach Shaun Aguano’s first game. The Utes overwhelmed the Sun Devils in Tempe and won 34-13.
The 2022 loss to Utah is actually the third consecutive blackout game loss for Arizona State. In 2021, Washington State dominated ASU in a rare day game. I think we can all be thankful this year’s blackout game is at night.
Then in 2019, Arizona State came up just short against USC.
The last blackout game victory for the Sun Devils was in 2018. Arizona State knocked off No. 15 Michigan State in an upset. Kicker Brandon Ruiz won the game for ASU as he drilled a 28-yard field goal as time expired.
In 2017 for the blackout game Arizona State beat a top-five ranked Washington team in a defensive-minded game, 13-7. After the upset victory, fans stormed the field.
There have been a lot of fantastic moments at Sun Devil Stadium (now known as Mountain America Stadium) in Arizona State’s annual blackout game. Will the Sun Devils be able to get back to their winning ways and end the blackout game losing streak? Only time will tell.
Arizona State vs. Oklahoma State kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on Fox Sports. The Cowboys are currently favored by three.
