TEMPE, Ariz. — A much-needed bye week is upon us for Arizona State football. Kenny Dillingham and his staff are taking advantage of the extra time to hit the recruiting trail this weekend. During the season, coaches have very little time to spend recruiting and definitely don’t have the time to travel for recruiting purposes. The bye week allows the staff to get back out on the recruiting trail for the first time in months.

Let’s see where the staff is going this weekend.

Arizona State football coaching staff hits recruiting trail

Let’s look at where each member of the staff will be this weekend.

Kenny Dillingham

The head man for the Sun Devils will travel to both Houston and Louisianna this weekend. Arizona State has two commits from the state of Louisiana in the 2024 class: Cullen Charles and Albert Smith. Both are three stars. Dillingham could be looking to shore up his relationship with those two prospects, as well as looking for other future Sun Devils in the state.

As for Houston, six ASU commits in the 2024 class are from Texas. Dillingham won’t be the only staff member to visit the Lone Star State. The staff has made it a huge priority to recruit the football powerhouse state.

Charlie Ragle

Ragle will join Dillingham in Louisianna. The special teams coach will most likely stop in with Cullen Charles and Albert Smith as well. In an era of transfers, NIL, and many de-commitments, you need to still actively recruit the prospects who have committed to you.

That’s just this era of college football. Prospect retention and relationships are extremely important.

Beau Baldwin

Arizona State’s offensive coordinator Beau Baldwin will be traveling to California. The Sun Devils have three commitments in the 2024 class from California, and they’re all from the southern portion of the state. Sire Gaines, Martell Hughes, and Champ Westbrook have all verbally pledged to Arizona State, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Baldwin stops in to see any of those three prospects.

Bryan Carrington

One of the best recruiters on Arizona State’s staff will be in Atlanta and Houston this weekend. Carrington has already made stops at Grayson High School (GA), Buford High School (GA), and Milton High School (GA).

Here are the players that the Sun Devils have offered at those schools:

Grayson:

  • (2024) T.A. Cunningham (Penn State verbal commit)
  • (2024)Nasir Smith (undecided)
  • (2026) Anthony Davis (undecided)
  • (2026) Tyler Atkinson (undecided)

Buford:

  • (2024) Dylan Raiola (Georgia verbal commit)
  • (2024)KJ Bolden (Florida State verbal commit)
  • (2025) AJ Holloway (undecided)

Milton:

  • (2024) Debron Gatling (Texas A&M verbal commit)
  • (2025) CJ Wiley (undecided)
  • (2025) Ryan Ghea (undecided)
  • (2025) Tyler Redmond (undecided)
  • (2025) Shamar Arnoux (Tennessee verbal commit)
  • (2025) Dylan Lewis (undecided)

My best guess is Carrington is spending some time with the undecided players at those schools.

As for his time in Houston? Well, Carrington is a big leader of the #Texas2Tempe movement and graduated from the University of Houston. That’s his home territory, so Sun Devil fans should look forward to him being there.

Shaun Aguano

The fan-favorite runningbacks coach will be another Sun Devil staff member in Texas. To say that Arizona State is looking to recruit Texas is an understatement. They are looking to establish a consistent pipeline, and their dedication of staff and resources to the state shows that.

In the 2024 class, ASU has given scholarship offers to 78 players from Texas (via 247 Sports), that’s the most of any state by far.

The 2024 recruiting class for the Sun Devils is also compiled of more prospects from Texas than any other state, beating out Arizona by one.

Aguano is one of the best recruiters on staff with his familiarity with the high school game after his years coaching at Chandler High School.

Vince Amey

Arizona State’s defensive line coach will be in Texas as well. Amey will spend time in Austin before heading to the Bay Area. It’s impossible to pinpoint who Amey could be in Austin for, as I mentioned before the Sun Devils are hitting Texas hard.

However, for the Bay Area, my best suspicion is Amey will be visiting with Marco Jones, Matthew Johnson, or Kelepi Vete. All three are 2025 edge or defensive line prospects from the Bay Area.

Jones is a four-star and Johnson and Vete are three-star prospects.

Jason Mohns

The tight-end coach will be in Los Angeles and then will head to Oregon. While in Oregon Mohns will likely check in with 2024 tight-end commit Jayden Fortier. Fortier has been an absolute gem and a huge recruit for the Sun Devils by Mohns.

Fortier is the top prospect in Oregon and recently was bumped up to a four-star by 247 Sports. He’s also moved on up to being a top-five tight-end in the West.

Not a bad find for Mohns and Arizona State.
