TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State football is losing one of their best offensive weapons to the transfer portal. Star tight end Jalin Conyers, who spent the last three seasons with the Sun Devils, plans to enter his name into the Transfer Portal, per his social media.
Conyers is entering the portal as a grad transfer with one season of eligibility remaining. He began his career at Oklahoma, then spent three seasons with ASU, and now will end his career elsewhere. He will be immediately eligible at his next school, due to graduate transfer rules.
Arizona State football tight end Jalin Conyers to enter transfer portal
This season Conyers played 11 games and hauled in 30 receptions for 362 yards. The 6’4, 250 lb tight end also got many opportunities running the football this season. On the ground, he racked up 22 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown.
Last season Conyers showed his true capabilities. The junior (at the time) broke out in the last six games of the season. He finished the year with 38 receptions for 422 yards and five touchdowns. NFL scouts were raving about him. Conyers is extremely athletic and agile for his size and is a problem in the passing game.
Unfortunately, Arizona State’s passing game struggled this season with a poor offensive line and multiple quarterback injuries. Conyers even started a game at quarterback this season!
However, the tight end did a good job of pivoting and excelled as a blocker this season. After Arizona State got blown out by Utah in early November, Conyers was named to Pro Football Focus’s “Team of the Week”. He didn’t even have a reception. His blocking was so impressive, that he was still one of PFF’s top-performing players of the week.
Conyers after the fact said that was one of his proudest accomplishments.
The tight end will have a bright future wherever he finishes his collegiate career.
