Arizona State football plays Oregon this Saturday.

TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State football coach Kenny Dillingham reunites with his former team this Saturday, as the Sun Devils play host to the Oregon Ducks. Oregon comes into the matchup ranked No. 6 in the latest college football playoff rankings, and is 9-1. Arizona State on the other hand is 3-7.

Last season Dillingham was the offensive coordinator in Eugeune under Dan Lanning. Dillingham has also coached Oregon quarterback Bo Nix multiple times, dating back to Nix’s freshman season at Auburn when Dillingham was his quarterback coach.

Saturday’s game from an outside perspective seems incredibly lopsided, and the result could be too. However, there are a lot of interesting storylines at play, and we’ve seen upsets in Tempe before.

Here are the Sun Devil Daily staff predictions for Arizona State football’s matchup with the Ducks.

Arizona State football predictions vs Oregon

Arizona State: 10 Oregon: 31

Oregon is probably the most complete team ASU will face this season. I think the Ducks are just too talented and the Sun Devils are too banged up to keep this game close. I think ASU will be able to slow down Oregon’s high-powered offense early on, but will eventually tire out. I don’t think the Sun Devils will have much success moving the ball on offense and end up leaving their defense on the field for too long. I think Oregon comes to Tempe and takes care of business. – Douglas Santo (6-4)

Arizona State: 17 Oregon: 49

I think Oregon is going to win 49-17. Oregon needs a complete game to bolster their hopes of jumping Washington and getting their name into the mix for a CFP title. Oregon has one of the best defenses in the nation and they will come to play tomorrow. In addition to their great defense, their offense has been high-flying ever since the Washington game. Bo Nix is having his best season so far I think that will continue tomorrow. The last time Oregon came to Tempe the Devils upset them but I do not see that this time around. – Cooper Burns (8-2)

Arizona State: 17 Oregon: 35

I think Arizona State football will do what they’ve done for nine out of their 10 games this season. And that’s compete, regardless of the talent gap on the field. Arizona State’s defense is legitimately good, and all season they’ve competed. Besides Utah, no clue what happened in that game. Dillingham’s familiarity with Nix and Lanning should present an advantage for the Sun Devils. Many credit Dillingham with Nix’s development, perhaps that intimate knowledge of his game will allow this Sun Devil defense to expose his weaknesses.

However this Oregon team is simply too good, and Arizona State is too injured. They can’t rely on the swinging gate formation like UCLA, because Lanning and his staff are smart and aware of it now. I expect the Sun Devils to put up a fight, but eventually be overmatched. – Brendon Pricco (6-4)
