TEMPE, Ariz. — New Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham is recruiting in his old backyard. The Sun Devils picked up a commitment from tight end Jayden Fortier.
Top prospect in Oregon chooses the Sun Devils
Prior to returning to Tempe and Arizona State, Kenny Dillingham was the offensive coordinator at Oregon. Dillingham was only with the Ducks for a year. During that time, he helped develop quarterback Bo Nix and shaped Oregon into one of the best offenses in college football.
Less than a year later, Dillingham is hunting in Oregon’s backyard.
On June 30th, tight end Jayden Fortier announced his commitment to the Sun Devils.
247 Sports ranks the 2024 tight-end prospect as the best prospect in Oregon. Fortier is a three-star and attends Tualatin high school.
Arizona State beat out rival Arizona in Fortier’s recruitment. The 6’5 tight end even visited Arizona prior to committing to the Sun Devils.
New tight ends coach Jason Mohns was listed as the primary recruiter (247 Sports). This is Mohns’s first official commitment as a college coach. Before joining Dillingham’s staff at ASU, Mohns was Saguaro high school’s head coach and offensive coordinator.
Saguaro is a football powerhouse in the state of Arizona. Mohns won an AIA state-record six consecutive state championships at Saguaro.
Jayden Fortier speaks about Arizona State
After announcing his commitment, Fortier sat down with 247 Sports, and he had some glowing things to say about ASU.
“The biggest reason I picked Arizona State was the constant reminder that I was wanted,” Fortier told 247. “They never let up, and they were always talking with me, checking how I am, how my family is. It meant a lot going into my decision. The coaching staff is one of a kind, and they’re brand new and are going to do big things.”
The previous Arizona State coaching staff started Fortier’s recruitment and offered him a scholarship. After reviewing his game footage, the new staff decided to continue to recruit Fortier. The rest is history.
“I knew from the day I stepped foot on the campus all the way back in November this was the place I wanted to call home,” Fortier said. “I had to play out everything else and analyze my options, but deep down, I knew this was going to be it.”
Welcome home Jayden Fortier.
