TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State soccer kicked off this week and Pauline Nelles brought home some hardware. This is the first “weekly honor” in the sophomore’s college career.

Nelles wins Pac-12 Keeper of the Week for Arizona State soccer

Arizona State went 1-0-1 this week to start the season. The Sun Devils picked up an opening-night victory against Wright State. It wasn’t close either, as ASU walked away with a 4-0 win.

Nelles added one save in the shutout, getting some nice help from her defense. The performance that truly got her the award came on Sunday against Mississippi State.

Arizona State and Mississippi State tied, 0-0. Nelles had the clean sheet, again. This time though she added eight saves, with six in the first half. Nelles was one shy of tying her career-high in saves (9).

The German native was the only keeper in the conference with two shutouts, and she was third in saves. That’s pretty good. This doesn’t come as a surprise to those who have been around the program. Nelles is extremely talented and had an outstanding freshman season.

As a freshman Nelles was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team and was Third-Team All-Pac-12. She also finished top 50 in the NCAA in save percentage.

The sophomore also has experience going against some of the best in the sport. Nelles has competed on the national level with Germany since *checks notes* 2016.

Arizona State takes a short road trip for its next two games with matchups against New Mexico State and UTEP. Nelles will be a key part of the Sun Devils this season and if she continues to play at this level, it’ll be a successful season.
