TEMPE, Ariz. — ASU baseball has an illustrious history with five national championships, over 20 College World Series appearances, and has produced over 100 major leaguers.
The Sun Devil baseball program has also produced 133 All-Americans, with the latest addition being outfielder Kien Vu.
Kien Vu of ASU baseball named All-American
On June 12, sophomore outfielder Kien Vu was named an All-American, the No. 133 in Arizona State baseball history. Vu is the fourth All-American under skipper Willie Bloomquist. He joins Joe Lampe (2022), Nate Baez (2022), and Luke Keaschall (2023).
Arizona State’s full press release on Vu’s accomplishment is available here.
The outfielder from San Diego had an excellent season at the plate. Vu hit a remarkable .413 in his 150 at-bats. His batting average led the Pac-12 and finished fifth nationally. Of his 62 hits, 27 went for extra bases including 14 home runs. Vu tallied 53 runs scored and 56 RBIs and showed off his speed with 12 stolen bases to top it all off.
Vu peaked in April, posting a .439 average and an astonishing .848 slugging percentage. He had seven homers, four doubles, and a triple while driving in 26 runs. His efforts garnered him finalist consideration for the NCBWA Hitter of the Month.
His strongest performance of the season came on May 18 against UNLV. Vu racked up three hits, including two homers.
On top of being named an All-American, Vu earned Pac-12 First Team honors in the final season of the Conference of Champions (as we know it).
Vu also led the Pac-12 in league-only games with a .418 average and .916 slugging percentage and his 31 RBIs in Pac-12 games were fifth in the league.
