ASU football schedule analysis

ASU will have seven games at home this year, with five road games.  One of the things that will stand out with this schedule is how spread out the road games are for the Sun Devils. Throughout the entire season, ASU will not play back-to-back road games.

The shortest time between road games is 14 days from week two until week four.

Tough Road Environments

Even though ASU only has to hit the road five times in 2025, each trip poses significant challenges.

Mississippi State: Coming off one of their worst seasons in school history, the Bulldogs will look to bounce back with second-year head coach Jeff Lebby. This past season the Bulldogs had the No. 13 best recruiting class in the SEC but No. 27 best in the nation. In addition to their great recruiting, the Bulldogs finished No. 15 in the nation in transfer portal class. Going to Starkville will be a challenge for the Sun Devils given the noise the stadium can bring. Facing up to 61,000 cowbells will be something that ASU will not have faced before.

Baylor: The first conference road test of the season comes at Baylor. Last season Baylor was a rollercoaster starting the season off 2-4 but ending 8-5. Baylor finished with the third-best recruiting class in the Big 12 last season including two players in the top 20 in their position. McLane Stadium may be one of the more scenic places to play in the conference but it is not kind to opposing teams. In 2024, Baylor lost just one game at home by six points to BYU. Outside of their home loss to BYU, only TCU was able to keep it a one-score game in Waco.

Utah: Despite having a down year last year, Utah will be ready to compete for a conference title once again. Head coach Kyle Whittingham will have his pieces back for another year in Salt Lake ready to avenge their loss to the Devils last season. Rice-Eccles stadium is one of the hardest places to play in the conference no matter the Utes record, particularly at night. With the game being in October it will likely be the Devils first game in a moderately cool climate.

Iowa State: Quite possibly one of, if not the biggest game on the Big 12 schedule in the entire conference. A rematch of the 2024 Big 12 championship game which saw the ASU cruise past the Cyclones. Last season, the Cyclones went 6-1 at home with a one-point loss to Texas Tech. Jack Trice Stadium may seem small but it holds a mighty 61,000 screaming Iowa State fans. Unfortunately for the Sun Devils, they will not get the nice cozy indoor environment they got at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The average temperature in Ames during the month of November is a high of 49 and a low of 29. If you are lucky you may even get a snowflake or two.

Colorado: The final road game for the Sun Devils sees them journeying to Boulder. 2022 was the last time the Devils made the trip there and walked away with a win. Things are much different now with Deion Sanders at the helm of Colorado. Sanders’s two sons will be gone but he’s brought in some very talented pieces to replace them. Last season saw the Buffaloes lose just one game at home to Kansa State by three points. Boulder will be another frigid environment for the Devils with an average high of 55 and a low of 30 in November.

Conference record

In the end, the Devils have a very nice balance of home and road games but each road game will come with a test.

What will the record be for ASU football in 2025?
