TEMPE, Ariz. — Former four-star defensive back recruit from Basha High School in Chandler, Ariz. Cole Martin has announced that he is transferring to ASU football.
Martin began his collegiate career at Oregon last season as a freshman. As a true freshman for one of the best defenses in college football, Martin compiled 21 total tackles, an interception, and a pass breakup.
ASU football brings local prospect home
The Arizona native was in the class of 2023 and was ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the state and the 24th-best cornerback according to Rivals.
Basha is just 25 miles from Mountain America Stadium, and after his brief stop in Eugene, Martin is coming home.
One of the main reasons that Martin came to ASU is the fact that Dillingham was the primary recruiter in the recruitment of Martin out of high school. Dillingham was at Florida State at the time but recruited Martin as hard as he could to come play in Tallahassee.
In this day and age even if a player does not come to your program you have to continue to recruit them because you never know when they may become available again.
Throughout his high school career, Martin put up some gaudy numbers all while playing in one of the higher divisions in Arizona.
In his four years, Martin compiled:
- 238 total tackles
- 127 solo tackles
- 111 assisted tackles
- five caused fumbles
- five interceptions
In his senior year alone Martin had two interceptions and 94 total tackles, incredible numbers. This is a major get for Dillingham and his staff late in the transfer portal window.
ASU struggled at times last year in the secondary whether it be safety or corner as they gave up 263 passing yards per game.
Martin is a huge addition and has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
