TEMPE, Ariz. — ASU football is in for a big recruiting weekend. The Sun Devils are set to host multiple four-star prospects, as well as some three-stars. This recruiting class will be imperative for Kenny Dillingham, as it’s his first full offseason, with a mostly finalized coaching staff (still waiting on an official offensive coordinator hire).
Let’s take a look at some of the prospects that will be taking official visits to Tempe this weekend.
ASU football hosting several four-star prospects this weekend
Jason Brown
Arizona State will be hosting one of the most talented runningbacks in the 2024 recruiting class this weekend. Jason Brown is from O’Dea High School in Washington. 247 Sports ranks Brown as a consensus four-star, clocking in as the 176th-best player in the class, and 13th-best runningback.
ASU football has seemingly come out of nowhere in Brown’s recruitment. For months it was believed to be a three-team race between Oregon, Washington, and Michigan State.
However, Brown is taking an official visit to Arizona State this weekend. The only other school he’s taken an official visit to was Michigan State in June… and that was a whole different coaching staff in East Lansing.
247 Sports reporter Justin Thind covers Michigan State football and has been an expert in this recruitment. On Dec. 1, Thind logged a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of the Sun Devils. The analyst rated the prediction as a “4” or medium in confidence. If the Sun Devils were to land Brown, he’d immediately become the highest-ranked player in Arizona State’s 2024 recruiting class.
This is a critical recruitment battle, and Arizona State football is heavily involved.
Rustin Young
I’m not going to spend too much time talking about Rustin Young, as we did a whole article on him earlier this week.
However, Young is a very important offensive tackle prospect from Hawaii. The four-star is currently committed to Oregon State. Despite being committed, his recruitment is very much open due to all of the coaching changes in Corvallis.
Scheduling an official visit with Young is a good start in the process of trying to get the four-star to flip.
Jayden Fortier
Jayden Fortier is one of my favorite prospects in the 2024 recruiting class. The tight end committed to the Sun Devils back in June, and since then he has flown up the rankings. At the time of his commitment, Fortier was a three-star according to 247 Sports.
Since then he’s moved up to a four-star and has been putting up video game numbers weekly.
In his senior season, he had 60 receptions for 1,140 yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. He also had 48 rushing attempts for 271 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. There’s a reason Fortier is ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in Oregon.
Keeping Fortier is imperative, especially since he recently picked up an offer from Oregon. Lots of schools are making pushes to flip Fortier before signing day. This official visit is important to keep the talented tight end committed.
Other players visiting ASU football this weekend
Filiva’a Saluni: Saluni is an interior offensive lineman from Hawaii. 247 Sports ranks him as a three-star and the 49th-best IOL in the 2024 recruiting class. He also ranks as the fifth-best player in Hawaii. Saluni is uncommitted and is another prospect who could add future stability to the offensive line.
Salesi Manu: Manu is an edge rusher from Reno, Nev. and 247 Sports ranks him as the No. 82 edge rusher in the 2024 class. The 6’3, 240lb prospect took four visits this fall. He visited BYU, Cal, WSU, and Oregon State.
Champ Westbrook: Westbrook is Arizona State’s lone offensive line commitment in the 2024 class… as of now. The interior lineman is ranked No. 74 at his position according to 247 Sports. Westbrook has been committed to the Sun Devils since June and is from Los Angeles, Calif.
Kanyon Floyd: Floyd is a punter from Scottsdale, Ariz. 247 Sports ranks him as the third-best punter in the 2024 class. This may not be a flashy pickup, but as we all learned this season, punting is important. Floyd has been committed to the Sun Devils since May.
