TEMPE, Ariz. — ASU football has its annual spring game tonight at 6:00 pm. For all of the information regarding the game and the formatting, read here.
The game will include scrimmaging, as well as one-on-one competitions. This will allow fans the opportunity to see many players involved. The rosters for the scrimmages are below.
There are a lot of familiar faces, as well as new faces on the team this season. Here are three players to watch in the spring game tonight.
Three players to watch in the ASU football spring game
Sam Leavitt (Gold)
Sam Leavitt is the obvious pick here, and Sun Devil Nation will be watching him closely. Leavitt has been serving as the starting quarterback for most of spring practice, as his primary competition Jaden Rashada was limited with an injury. This past week Rashada hit the transfer portal, meaning Leavitt is very likely to be the starter this season.
The redshirt freshman is a Michigan State transfer with four seasons of eligibility. Last year as a backup for the Spartans he had 15 completions for 139 yards and two touchdowns along with two interceptions. He only played in four games and only had more than five attempts in two games, one against the national champions, Michigan.
Leavitt has progressed greatly throughout ASU’s spring practices. He oozes potential, has a strong 6’2, 200 lb frame, and has been impressive. There’s a good chance that Leavitt is the starting quarterback in Week 1 this year against Wyoming.
Keith Abney Jr (Maroon)
Keith Abney Jr. is a sophomore defensive back from Dallas, Texas. Last season for ASU football Abney appeared in eight games and accumulated two tackles and an interception. He was one of the few freshmen last season who didn’t redshirt, and he’s been exceptional in spring practice.
On Wednesday this week, he had his best practice of the spring, intercepting two passes and scooping a fumble for a score. With Ed Woods transferring, it opens up more opportunities for Abney to make a push for significant playing time this season. He has been a strong performer all spring and is a young player that Arizona State fans should get familiar with.
Jordyn Tyson (Gold)
Jordyn Tyson is a wide receiver, originally from Allen, Texas. Tyson was one of the highlights of Kenny Dillingham’s first transfer class last year, but he was limited all season recovering from an injury. However, in his freshman season with Colorado, Tyson was electric.
The wideout had 22 receptions for 470 yards and four touchdowns in 2022. He earned Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year, and now he’s healthy again.
Tyson has been a standout this spring and will be a significant addition to the offense this season.
