Chris Johnson Jr, a three-star corner and son of longtime NFL corner Chris Johnson, verbally committed to play football at Arizona State. The Texas native gave Sun Devil fans a little more to celebrate on the 4th of July.
Heavily recruited prospect picks Arizona State
Johnson Jr. visited the Sun Devils on June 9th and was offered a scholarship by Kenny Dillingham and assistant coach Bryan Carrington. Johnson Jr. also had offers from the likes of Arkansas, Oregon, Louisville, and Utah. Despite all of those offers, Johnson Jr. only visited ASU, Arkansas, and Oregon, all of those being in June.
The three-star corner was rated as the 40th-best corner and 83rd-best player in the state of Texas for the class of 2024.
Johnson Jr. attends Aledo high school in Aledo, Texas. At Aledo, he compiled 33 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions, seven pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries. The cornerback was a big part of Aledo high school winning the Texas 5A D1 football state championship in 2022.
Johnson Jr. also ran track in high school. He ran the 200-meter dash and was a part of the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400-meter relay teams.
It’s safe to say he has some speed.
Johnson Jr. is the third cornerback to commit to Dillingham and the Sun Devils in the class of 2024. Three-star corner Rodney Bimage committed to the Devils on June 22nd, and three-star corner Tony- Louis Nkuba committed to the Devils on May 15th.
This is ASU’s 12th three-star commit in the 2024 class and keeps them at fourth in the Pac 12 rankings in terms of recruiting the 2024 class. Arizona State clocks in at 44th overall in the 2024 recruiting rankings.
