TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State football has been in its offseason since Nov. 25, 2023. However, there is no real offseason for the players donning the beloved maroon and gold.

Cullen (CJ) Fite, is a sophomore defensive lineman from Tatum, Texas. Fite is already learning the ways of a college football offseason, and he’s taken advantage of it.

Arizona State football sophomore CJ Fite talks about offseason body transformation

“This offseason is more of making sure my body is right,” Fite began during a media availability on June 12. Behind the towering athlete are many youth players participating in head coach Kenny Dillingham’s youth camp. “Last year I let my body go, going into the season… I was hearing a lot of ‘you’re gonna practice a lot, you’re gonna burn a lot of stuff, so you can eat whatever’. I found out that’s not right for me.”

Fite in his true freshman campaign appeared in 11 games for Arizona State football, racking up 15 total tackles. He also added 1.5 tackles for loss, a pass deflection, and a fumble recovery. Not bad for a true freshman, especially one playing in the trenches. Now Fite is looking to transform his body so he can have even more of an impact in year two.

“This year (I’m) gonna worry more about what I eat,” Fite continued. “And then just trying to build on what I did last year. (With) the training, and the film, and just trying to get ahead of the competition.”

Fite’s focus on his body is already paying off. Since spring practices, he has already gone down between six and seven percent body fat.

“I’m just continuing to try and get… my body fat percentage lower and lower so I can be more explosive and be on the field longer.”
