One of the top prospects in the 2025 recruiting class, Koa Peat, visited Arizona State on Thursday and was seen at ASU football’s home opener. Peat is from Arizona and grew up in Gilbert, going to Perry High School.
Peat is a five-star prospect, ranked third nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, and the top prospect in Arizona. He is a 6-8, 210 lb. power forward, ranked second in his position, only to the top prospect in the nation, Cameron Boozer.
Arizona State basketball gets a visit from Koa Peat
It is no secret Arizona State has had its eye on Peat. The Sun Devils were the first college to give him an offer, before he even finished middle school, in eighth grade.
He has since gained national recognition, with 30 offers in total. Those offers include many of basketball’s blue bloods such as Kentucky, UNC, Kansas, and other powerhouses like Michigan State, UCLA, Michigan, and the Sun Devils’ rivals from down south, the Arizona Wildcats. The latest of which came from Duke on August 21, according to verbalcommits.com.
Peat’s athletic bloodline
Peat, the youngest of 6 siblings, has a strong bloodline of athleticism and physicality. His father, Todd Peat, was an offensive lineman in the NFL; his brother, Andrus Peat, is a three-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman for the Saints; and two more brothers, Todd Peat Jr. and Cassius Peat, both played college ball as well.
Keona Peat, the brother closest in age to Koa, now plays football at Arizona State. Koa is the only brother who went the basketball route. However, his two older sisters, Leilani Peat, and Maya Peat, both played college ball as well. Leilani spent last season as a graduate assistant with the Arizona State men’s basketball team.
If Arizona State can manage to recruit Peat, it would likely be their biggest recruit in school history. ASU has never landed a five-star prospect who was ranked top three in the country, according to 247sports.
Peat’s visit to Arizona State came just days before his first official visit to Michigan. That’s scheduled for September 2, according to On3 Sports.
It will be interesting to follow Peat over the next two years to see where he decides to continue his basketball journey. Between roots just South of Tempe and his brother, Keona, now playing football at ASU, and offers from some of the top college basketball programs in the country, his recruitment should be fun to watch.
