TEMPE, Ariz. — Jahii Carson was one of the most electrifying guards Arizona State basketball has ever seen. He only spent two seasons with the Sun Devils before beginning his pro career. Now the guard just signed a contract for his new professional team in Europe.
From Arizona State basketball to Europe
In just his two seasons with Arizona State, Carson left a mark. His redshirt-freshman season was 2012-2013. The 5’10 guard took the league by storm. He averaged 18.5 points per game and five assists per game. The only ever freshman to score more in Sun Devil history was Ike Diogu (19.0).
Those are elite numbers for any player, much less a freshman in a Power 5 conference. Carson split Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors with UCLA’s Shabazz Muhammad.
Fast forward about ten years and Muhammad spent six seasons in the NBA and was taken in the lottery in the 2013 NBA Draft. That was pretty good company for Carson to be in.
The undersized guard followed up his standout freshman season with another impressive year. In his sophomore year, Carson averaged 18.6 points per game and 4.0 rebounds. He also tallied 153 assists on the year to go with 23 steals.
Those numbers were good enough to earn first-team All-Pac-12 honors in back-to-back seasons.
Carson declared for the NBA after his sophomore season but went undrafted. From there it’s been various overseas stints and some time in the G-League.
Now most recently Carson inked a deal with Jamtland, a club in Sweden.
This will give him the opportunity to play on a national stage, the FIBA Europe Cup. Despite going undrafted and never managing to make it to the NBA, Carson has been able to make a living out of playing basketball.
