Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell announced on Tuesday that former Arizona State standout WR N’Keal Harry is switching from WR to TE. O’Connell says Harry is “fired up” about the change.

Former Arizona State standout WR is changing positions in the NFL

Many ASU fans remember the former Sun Devil for his time in Tempe. Throughout his time at ASU, Harry had a career of 213 catches for 2,889 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns. Harry also had a career of 23 rushing attempts for 144 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

The Sun Devil standout would then be the No. 32 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft to the New England Patriots.

With his time in New England, Harry’s best season was in 2020, when he racked up a career-high 33 receptions for 309 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

In 2022, Harry would then be traded to the Chicago Bears, where he tallied seven receptions for 119 receiving yards and a touchdown to go along with it.

In 2023, the Bears let Harry walk in free agency. Harry would soon sign with the Minnesota Vikings in the summer of 2023.

Fast forward to 2024. Now with the Vikings, the former Arizona State football star WR is switching to tight end. O’Connell thinks Harry has “attacked the process” and wants Harry to develop as a “third-down” and “red zone” weapon.

Harry comments on the change

“It was KO’s (Kevin O’Connell) idea,” Harry said. “He asked me how I felt about it, and I told him ‘whatever I could do to help the team.'”

The former Arizona State star has his mind in the right place for the transition and is showing his determination to carve out a role for himself in the NFL while doing anything to help his team.
