Former Arizona State hockey leading scorer signs with Toronto Marlies
Robert Mastrosimone was magical in Tempe last season. The 22-year-old from New York was arguably Arizona State’s most important player. The senior led the Sun Devils in assists and total points. Arizona State hockey had a lot of ups and downs, but Mastrosimone shined bright the whole season.
The New York native began his college hockey career at Boston University, where he spent three seasons. His best season came in his junior year. The junior scored 11 goals and tallied 14 assists. He used his high level of play to earn a roster spot with Arizona State’s budding hockey program.
After a successful senior season with the Sun Devils, Mastrosimone is beginning his professional career. The Toronto Marlies are a good starting spot.
In 2022-2023 the Toronto Maple Leaf’s roster featured 10 players who had dressed both for the Maple Leafs and the Marlies. Since 2005, 148 players have appeared in regular season games at both the AHL and NHL level.
The Maple Leafs are one of the premier programs in the NHL. All time they’ve garnered 13 Stanley Cup Trophies and 72 NHL playoff appearances. They’ve also made the playoffs every year for the last seven seasons.
Mastrosimone’s time in Toronto will give him a chance to be called up to the NHL and to develop his skills with one of the best franchises in the sport.
