The Ladies Professional Golf Association, or LPGA, made its annual stop in Sylvania, Ohio for this week’s Dana Open. Last year this tournament was won by Gaby Lopez with a score of 266 (-18). This weekend’s scoring would be similar to the previous one in 2022.  Former two-time All-American at Arizona State Linn Grant claimed her first LPGA win with a score of 263 (-21).

While this may have been Grant’s first win on the LPGA it is not her first win professionally. The Swedish native played on the LET, the Ladies European Tour, right out of college where she came out firing. In her first two professional starts, she finished second in both of them. Shortly thereafter Grant collected her first pro win at the Terre Blanche Ladies Open in France.

Throughout this week’s Dana Open many broadcasters and media personalities called her a “rising star” and boy did that show. Grant shot two rounds of sub-65. On Thursday, Grant shot a 64 to give herself a share of the lead after round one. After the first round, she never looked back from there. Grant shot a 69 on Friday to make the cut at -9 and continued to be right at the top of the leaderboard.

Going into the weekend Grant was close only two shots back and had a little bit of work to do. On Saturday, Grant came out and fired one of the best rounds of any golfer this season on the LPGA. The former Sun Devil shot a 62 on Saturday to rocket out to a six-shot lead heading into the final round.

Grant speaks about her performance

Grant was asked during the round if she knew what her score was. “On 14, I’m just checking over [at the leaderboard] and I know I’m playing well so I was expecting to be up there,” Grant said.

Some players might think of the ways they can mess up a six-stroke lead, but Grant did not do that. On Sunday, Grant went out and shot a 68 to close out the tournament for her first LPGA win.

When asked how it felt Grant said she has “imagined this day so many times and so many ways in my head.”

The next tournament Grant will play is the Amundi Evian Championships in France. That is one of the five major championships on the LPGA tour. Grant has had success at that golf course having won a tournament there before.

When asked about the course she proclaimed “I really like that golf course, I have played well there, I am really excited to go back there and play again.” Grant will go there looking for her first-ever major championship.

The Evian Championship will be contested July 27-30 on the networks of NBC.
