Amier Ali is a senior, six-foot-eight-inch, 175-pound small forward at the IMG Academy. Ali is a four-star prospect ranked forty-fifth nationally and eighth in the state of Florida according to 247 Sports. Ali recently named his final five schools in his recruitment, and Arizona State basketball made the cut.
Four-star prospect names ASU as a finalist
“Playing style will play a lot in my future decision so that’s the main thing. I also want to see who each program has put in the NBA in the past,” Amier Ali told 247 Sports. “I want to see if they use bigger guards and wings that can shoot, handle, play defense, and do everything.”
Ali’s final list includes Arizona State, Kentucky, Alabama, Kansas and Arkansas. He has amassed 18 offers across the country and now ASU stands in the final five. There are some college basketball powerhouses on his list other than ASU, but Ali gave 247 Sports reasons for each of his final five schools. It’s a good sign for Arizona State to be involved, despite not having the program history the other schools do.
The impact of Bobby Hurley
“I like coach Hurley a lot and I like his coaching schemes and how he coaches his players. He’s a great coach, who gets the best out of you,” Ali told 247 Sports. “I want to be held accountable on and off the court at the next level and he’s a great coach for that.”
Arizona State head coach Bobby Hurley brought in two four-star recruits for 2023, Akil Watson and Braelon Green. Certainly, the recruitment of Ali would be huge for the program. Evidently, Hurley is a talented and experienced recruiter and if he can bring Ali to ASU, it would add to the list.
Ali’s basketball background
Ali is from Plano, Texas where he started playing basketball in seventh grade. His skill and athletic ability became obvious pretty quickly. He earned his first scholarship offer in the ninth grade, playing at Spring Creek Academy. Then Ali played his sophomore season at Montverde Academy, where ASU gave him an offer in April of 2022.
Next, Ali played his junior season at IMG Academy and will play his senior season there also as he ponders his next move. Over the summer, Ali was selected for the Jayson Tatum Elite Camp in July.
It will be interesting to follow Ali and his decision throughout the remainder of the school year. However, there’s cause for plenty of excitement surrounding the future of Sun Devil basketball. Ali naming ASU in his final five schools comes just a little over a week after five-star prospect Koa Peat was seen at ASU football’s season opener.
