TEMPE, Ariz. — Ray Anderson has officially resigned as the Athletic Director of Arizona State University, and Sun Devil faithful across the valley are rejoicing. The news broke on Monday morning, just a mere hour before Arizona State football head coach Kenny Dillingham’s weekly Monday press conference.
Of course, Dillingham was asked about Anderson’s resignation.
Kenny Dillingham comments on Ray Anderson’s resignation
“(I’m) thankful for him giving me the opportunity to be the head coach here at my alma mater, my dream job. So very very thankful for him,” Dillingham said. “He’s been supportive of me since I got here. So best of luck to him in his future, and you know, we’ll look forward to what the future holds here.”
Dillingham was asked if he believes that the fan support will change at all with the change in Athletic Director. He responded by saying he’s not worried about it. The first-year head coach is worried about things that he can control, like scoring against Oregon.
He was also asked if he believes the resignation of Anderson could be a “springboard” for future donor support, especially involving NIL.
“I think anytime there’s change… some things fall through, and more people get back involved or disengaged. So I definitely think anytime there’s change it rattles enough cages… to get maybe some people involved… I think the last nine months we’ve been put in the right direction. That started with… Ray bringing me in here. Hopefully, that’s going to carry on through his processor. The direction we wanna go in NIL… we gotta step it up and we’ve gotta rolling at a rapid, rapid, rapid, rapid, rate in this next three weeks to one month.”
