TEMPE, Ariz. — Kenny Dillingham addressed the media this afternoon in his weekly press conference. The press conference comes after one of the most disappointing performances in Arizona State football history when the Sun Devils lost 29-0 at home to Fresno State. Not only were they shut out for the first time at home since 1988, but ASU also turned the ball over eight times.
That simply cannot happen.
Dillingham has a message for the Arizona State fanbase following the loss.
Kenny Dillingham sends a message to the fanbase
Dillingham met the question with a chuckle when asked what his message is for the fanbase right now.
“Same message, if you thought this was gonna be easy, you’re wrong,” Dillingham said. “This is a process to get to where we want to go. That’s the challenge I’ve said all along, this is a state that likes winners. And in order to win in college football you need everyone behind you. We need people to stay behind us, stay behind our players, and stay behind the process that it takes to be successful.”
Dillingham makes a good point, while the on-field results this season so far have been disappointing, it’s the first year of a rebuild. It’s easy to look at other programs across the country, like Colorado for example, and be envious of a quick roster overhaul and rebuild. However, Dillingham has made it clear that he’s here to make a long-term culture change.
This was Dillingham’s dream job, and he wants to establish a winning culture in Tempe, and that won’t happen overnight.
“We’re gonna get it done. It’s just a matter of when it grows,” Dillingham said. “I wish I could be in control of that and say ‘This is the week!’, but you never know it clicks, until it clicks.”
