TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State opens as home underdogs against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. ASU will welcome the Cowboys to Tempe next Saturday. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Both teams are coming off of victories against FCS opponents. Both teams probably also wish they won by more in Week 1.
Arizona State opens as underdog to Oklahoma State
According to Draft Kings Sportsbook, the Cowboys are favored by three points over the Sun Devils. Yesterday Oklahoma State had a narrow victory over FCS opponent Central Arkansas.
It was a one-possession game entering the fourth quarter, with Oklahoma State holding a 13-7 lead. However, the Cowboys ended up pulling away late and walked away with a 27-13 win.
Arizona State’s game against Southern Utah went the exact opposite. ASU started off strong with great performances from the defense and Jaden Rashada under center. The Sun Devils took a 21-7 lead into the half.
After a dust storm and thunderstorm extended halftime to nearly three hours, Arizona State came out flat. Kenny Dillingham’s squad was outscored 14-3 in the second half but squeaked out a 24-21 victory.
Arizona State’s history against Oklahoma State
Arizona State’s non-conference matchup with Oklahoma State is the back end of a home-and-home series. Last season the Sun Devils traveled to Stillwater for the matchup. The Cowboys jumped out to a 17-3 halftime lead and never looked back. Oklahoma State defended their home field winning 34-17.
Overall the two schools have met each other four times. The all-time series is split 2-2. This used to be a rare opponent for Arizona State, but that time period is over.
With the Sun Devils joining the Big 12 next season, ASU vs. OSU will become a consistent matchup for years to come. This is a good time to see ASU against future conference competition, and Vegas thinks Oklahoma State has the edge.
