TEMPE, Ariz. — Emmit Bohle hails from a small town in South Dakota. The Selby native is from a “city” with a population of under 700. After a successful high school career he attended Northern State, a D2 school in South Dakota.

Bohle spent four years at Northern State, but due to redshirting in 2018 and COVID-19 canceling the 2020 season, Bohle only played two years. In both seasons he started all 11 games. In 2021 he earned Second Team All-NSIC North Division honors after paving the way for an offense that averaged the fourth most yards per game in the conference with 457.9 yards per game and had the second-highest offensive efficiency at 153.9.

The 6’7 right tackle made his way to Tempe via the transfer portal and in 2022 he played in all 12 games. Bohle started the final seven at right tackle. In those final seven starts, he allowed just seven quarterback pressures. Those seven pressures were the third-fewest of any Pac-12 tackle with at least 200 pass-blocking stats from Oct. 2 onward and the 19th-lowest tally among all FBS tackles.

Bohle began his career in the Herm Edwards era at Arizona State, but that was short-lived. Now Bohle is learning to adjust to his new coach, Kenny Dillingham. So far, he approves.

“I’d say it’s a lot more group based, a lot more family, cultural activities. We’re trying to become a team, become a family. And use that as motivation to push each other harder on the field and just become the best team we can,” Bohle said.

The team’s chemistry and comradery showed during practice on Wednesday morning. Long plays were greeted with cheers from the sideline during the scrimmage. Arizona State football is starting to look like a unit under Kenny Dillingham, and Emmit Bohle has one goal for the season.

What does a successful 2023 look like for you?

“A lot of wins,” Bohle replied.
