PHOENIX — The World Series is being played just miles away from Arizona State University. The Arizona Diamondbacks, led by a couple of players with ASU ties, have marched through the playoffs. This is the Diamondbacks’ first World Series appearance since they won it all in 2001.

While there are certain players and members of the DBacks’ staff that have a connection with ASU, that won’t be the only way the Sun Devils are represented in Game 4.

Sun Devil to throw out first pitch in World Series Game 4

Sun Devil Jon Rahm will be throwing out the first pitch ahead of Game 4. Rahm is a Masters Champion and one of the most decorated golfers in Arizona State men’s golf history.

Rahm won the Masters in April of 2023, beating out fellow Sun Devil Phil Mickelson. Before establishing himself as one of the best golfers in the world, Rahm was dominating in Tempe.

While at ASU he won the 2016 Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, which honors the top player in college golf. He also became the first two-time recipient of the Ben Hogan Award since its inception. Rahm finished his collegiate career ranked as the World Amateur No. 1 by World Amateur Golf Ranking.

He also finished second in Arizona State history in most Arizona State Men’s Golf Tournament wins behind Phil Mickelson.

The only 28-year-old already has had an incredibly successful career, and he’s just getting started. Now Rahm has the incredible honor of throwing the first pitch in a World Series game, just miles from where he went to school.
